Why HIPAA costs more
The app does the same things for its users. The extra cost is in what has to be true underneath, and proven:
| Area | What it adds to the work |
|---|---|
| Hosting and outside services | Every service that touches patient data must be one you can sign an agreement with |
| Sign-in and access | Staff see only the patients and records their role needs |
| A record of who did what | Who viewed or changed patient data, and when — kept, not just logged |
| Integrations | Records systems, labs and payers, each with its own rules |
| Security testing | Reviewed before launch, and repeated as the app changes |
| Evidence | The documents an auditor asks for, ready when they ask |
The earlier these are part of the specification, the less they cost. Retrofitting them after launch means reopening work that was already paid for.
What to ask before you accept a HIPAA quote
- Is compliance work itemized, or folded into a single number?
- Which outside services will touch patient data — and will each sign the agreement you need?
- What evidence will you receive at the end, for your auditor?
- What happens after launch — who keeps the controls working as the app changes?
- Does the vendor claim to make you compliant? If so, ask what they mean. Compliance belongs to your organisation.
How Pricient quotes a HIPAA project
You do not have to know which framework applies — the project tells us, and the quote carries it. When a project involves patient data, HIPAA is spotted, not left to you. QA and security are visible lines in every tier, and the evidence a security reviewer and an auditor ask for — a control-mapping binder, data-flow diagrams and drift checks that fail the build if a later change breaks a control — is produced as the work is done.
Audit-ready by default, never self-certified. We do not make you compliant, and nobody’s vendor does; we make your auditor’s job faster. Every quote comes with the specification, the Not in this release list, the assumptions register and three tiers, locked for 14 days.
